The Client: St. Thomas High School Athletics, Houston, TX
St. Thomas High School is a Catholic College Preparatory School for young men in grades 9 through 12. Established in 1900, it is one of the two oldest continuously operating private high schools in Houston, and its facilities include buildings on Houston’s historic register.
The Issue: Prevent Odor and Community Acquired Infection
Athletic facilities often have a characteristic “locker room odor” and their heavy daily use may make effective cleaning difficult, allowing odors to linger and, more urgently, creating an environment conducive to the growth and spread of community acquired infections such as Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus or MRSA. St. Thomas High School contracted Micro-X1 to remove and prevent locker room odors and to prevent the potential spread of infection.
The Solution: Disinfecting, Surface Protectants, Maintenance Treatments
Our MicroProtex Disinfection Treatment was applied to all surfaces, including locker room benches, training tables, workout equipment and handrails. A Surface Protectant was then applied to create a persistent barrier to viruses, bacteria, mold, mildew, fungus and pathogens. Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) testing was completed after disinfection to evaluate the levels of biological contamination of disinfected surfaces. To prevent future infections and odor, Micro-X1 developed a 90 day recurring treatment plan, with test data provided following each treatment.
Micro-X1 implemented the treatment plan in 2016. Odors are minimized and no infections have been reported since implementation.
